Shongololo Express provides a very special touring experience for travelers. From a warm welcome and transfer to the train at the start of the journey, to an exciting and varied program of touring, superb breakfasts and dinners on board, and a lounge full of new friends each evening - all these combine to create an unforgettable holiday.
Drawing on fifteen years experience of operating train safaris in southern Africa, Shongololo Express train managers, staff and our tour guides ensure the smooth running of the train and of your holiday. Designed to run like clockwork, each tour is nevertheless a unique adventure for guests and staff alike!
Each train carries a fleet of air-conditioned Mercedes Benz touring vehicles with professional guides on board (English, German, Dutch or French speaking) who are ready to take guests on inclusive scheduled tours to experience the unique sights of the area. For the more adventurous there are also tour add-ons from ballooning, to elephant riding to scuba diving available at many locations.
The chefs offer South African menus that include Cape Dutch and Malay recipes as well as authentic African dishes. Meals are complemented by a selection of delightful and distinguished South African wines. It is the aim and the pleasure of every staff member on board to provide you with friendly and efficient service.
Four different programs
- The Good Hope a 13 days tour from Cape town to Johannesburg passing by Kimberley, Durban , Swaziland, Kruger Park
- The Southern Cross a 16 days tour from Johannesburg to Livingstone passing by Maputo, Kruger and Zimbawe
- The Dune Express a 12 days program starting from Pretoria and stopping in Kimberley, Upington then all over Namibia up to Etosha and Walvis Bay.
- Dr Livingstone a 12 days program starting from Victoria falls all the way to Tanzania crossing Zambia
